Blacksmith’s Heart ~ A Love Under the Sun Romance by Dellani Oakes ~ Part 54

“I know you two were carried away by emotion,” she said softly. “But before you dive into a relationship, spend more than a few days getting to know one another. I know I’m the first one to tell you to seize the day.”

“Maybe we should seize it a bit more responsibly, is that what you’re saying, Enid?” Jasper asked her gently.

“Yes, dear. That’s exactly what I’m saying. I haven’t forgotten what it’s like to be young. And not a day goes by that I don’t miss Ed with all my heart. But we took it slowly, and you should too.”

“Took what slowly? Miss we didn’t exactly bathe?” Jasper laughed loudly.

“We didn’t,” Enid looked rather horrified. “He chased me all to hell, and back trying to get his clothing.” She giggled. “Oh, Lord, you took that to mean—”

“Exactly what you intended,” he laughed heartily. “You’ve told me that story more times than I can count. All this time I thought—”

“You thought I was a cheap tart! I know how you men think!”

“It’s the testosterone, Enid. It warps our brains. We can’t help it.”

“And that’s exactly the same reason we forgive you, dear. That dose of testosterone makes our heads spin.”

They had gotten to the cabin that Enid and Hana shared. The old lady excused herself quietly. “Don’t be long, Hana. I’ll need help getting into bed.”

“I’ll be right there, Auntie.”

“Goodnight, my boy. Keep your fly buttoned and your hands to yourself.”

“Yes, ma’am!” He saluted her and held his hands up where she could see them.

Giggling happily, though looking and sounding tired, Enid wheeled herself into the cabin. Hana pulled the door most of the way shut behind her aunt.

“I’m not sorry about what happened,” she said quietly. “I’m a little disappointed it didn’t go further.”

Jasper nodded, taking her in his embrace. “I’m not sorry either. I know I said that earlier, but I’m not. I’m sorry that we didn’t get to finish what we started, but we will.”

His lips on hers made everything else disappear. Hana thought of nothing except his touch. The burning desire that had filled them earlier had abated slightly. Now it smoldered beneath the surface. Enid called Hana from inside and the two of them parted reluctantly.

“I’ll see you tomorrow,” Jasper whispered.

“I can’t wait,” Hana said.

“Goodnight,” they said in unison, and laughed.

“I’m on breakfast duty again,” he groaned. “God, that’s gonna suck. But we’ll do something fun later, I promise.”

“I can’t wait. Sleep well,” she said, letting go of him reluctantly.

“You too.”

He lingered on the porch a moment longer, waiting for her to shut and lock the door. Walking backward, he watched her shadow retreat to the bedroom, then he turned and went to his own cabin. Walking in the door, he was assaulted by his cousins. They pounded him with questions as they pummeled him with their fists.

“Did you do it?” Jimmy asked him.

“What happened? She was wearing your shirt,” Jeff persisted.

“Do you really think I’m going to tell you anything?”

“Come on, Jas, we always tell you!” they chorused.

“You didn’t tell me about Marnie,” Jasper pointed out.

“That’s different, she’s not a one nighter.”

“Neither is Hana.” He gave his cousin a withering look.

“Okay, point taken,” Jeff conceded.

Jimmy was more persistent, but his brother backed their cousin, so he gave up, going to bed sullenly. Jasper sat up with Jeff a few minutes, talking quietly.

“I’m glad you and Marnie got together, cuz. See? I told you all along she liked you.”

“Yeah, I was an idiot. But I’m making up for it. I had no idea I could love her so much.”

“Me either.”

“Are you sure it’s not just your balls talking? She’s one hot, spicy taste sensation.”

“I’ve watched her grow up, Jeff. I feel like I’ve known her my entire life. It’s crazy, I didn’t meet her until recently, but she’s been a part of me forever. Am I completely out of my mind?”

“Prolly, but what the hell. I mean, shit. If we can’t be out of our minds once in a while, what fun is it? Marnie makes me totally out of my mind, too. One look, and she has me drooling all over myself like some kind of slobbering puppy. It’s sick, but it’s great all at once.”

“Hell, I don’t mind being a puppy if I get some,” Jasper chuckled. “Not like that’s my only motivation with Hana. Course, it’s part of it. Man would have to be blind or dead not to find her attractive.”

“If I didn’t have Marnie, I’d sure as hell fight you for her,” Jeff admitted with a sly grin.

“You’d try,” Jasper flexed his powerful muscles.

Jeff laughed, tossing a cushion at his cousin. “Get some sleep, blood.”
